my mum

It has been the most difficult of weeks for us as a family.
My wonderful, gentle, funny little mum passed away suddenly
on her 80th birthday last thursday.

We are struggling with the shock of it all and coming to terms with the huge hole she has left in our lives.
I am grateful for the support and love of my family and friends
at this awful time.

Miss me, but let me go

When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me
I want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free

Miss me a little - but not too long
And not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me - but let me go

For this is a journey that we must all take
And each must go alone
It's all a part of the Master's plan
A step on the road to home

When you are lonely, and sick of heart
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds
Miss me - but let me go

Vintage treasure

I found this beautiful little book in the local 'antique shoppe'.
It's a wonderfully tactile, leather bound, gilt-edged book.
The leather is so so soft and feels just lovely in your hand.
Mrs Browning's Birthday Book is a diary for birthdays which
includes snippets of poems by
Elizabeth Barrett Browning

There is one hill I nearer,
In my vision of the rest;
And a little wood seems clearer,
As I climbeth from the west,
Sideway from the tree-locked valley, to the valley upland crest

I'm a winner!

I never win anything, ever!  Well actually that's a fat lie.......
I did win tickets to see Mike Yarwood when I was 9,
I didn't go as I didn't think he was funny!!!!
So imagine my surprise when the lovely Kate from Manon thought my little response to her question 'what does Christmas mean to you' was to be rewarded with some wonderful little goodies from her shop. I love the little glass droplets and glass ball and the
rose soaps are just gorgeous.
Many thanks Kate.
Take a look at the wonderful Manon shop and blog

marimekko + converse

What a wonderful combination!
The iconic Finnish textile team have collaborated with Converse to produce some of the best designed women's footwear for Spring.  Vibrant prints from as far back as the 1960's by designers such as Maija and Kristina Isola have been paired with classics like Chuck Taylor designed trainers.

“We are excited about partnering with such an inspiring and iconic company as Converse. This enriching collaboration brings together two brands that both have a distinctive idiom and a unique heritage. The two companies have always walked their own path, and we also share the same unpretentious and joyful approach to life. We hope that this positive attitude will be transmitted to the people who will be sporting the Converses in the vibrant Marimekko designs,” says Minna Kemell-Kutvonen, Creative Director of Marimekko.

The shoes will be sold globally from February 2011 at selected Marimekko and Converse stores.

does it mean I'm lacking in some important nutrient?
Mr Cheese HATES the stuff. I've taken to opening the fridge door and secretly stuffing it in without him seeing!
My pink teeth might give the game away though ;-)

globe trotting - ImagineNations

I'm quite partial to an old tin globe or three. They can be found dotted around the Cheesie gaff, on shelves and cupboards. I'm sitting next to my current fave now. It's an an old vintage moon globe.......the sea of serenity, the bay of rainbows,
the ocean of storms (sounds like a poem).

I stumbled upon these amazing creations by artist Wendy Gould.
Wendy takes globes with a history and re-creates them into wonderful personalised works of art. Stunning!
