Tanya Houghton has started a beautiful, thoughtful art project for her mother Marianne, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer three years ago and recently diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Send Marianne a postcard from wherever you live in the world.  Tell her 3 of your favourite things about the place, put a stamp on it and that way Marianne will get to travel the around the world and visit far-flung places.

stitching with julie arkell

Whilst sitting in a dark hole earlier this year just after my dear mum passed away,
I booked a course with the lovely julie arkell at west dean college,
and last weekend i attended the
'objects of curiosity, making, patching, stitching and darning'.

It was so relaxing and creative!

After a lovely dinner we sewed till 10 o'clock making a fabric daisy.

The following morning we were eager to get stitching and made a buttercup, heartease, ragwort and a poppy.

There was deep concentration, laughter, coffee and biscuits, the apple fair, stitching, fabric envy, lunch, more apples, chat, lost needles, a heatwave, sewing, darning, rifling through a vintage suitcase of Julie's precious fabrics and apples!

It was a wonderful weekend, thank you Julie for your patience
and immense creativity, thank you fellow stitchers for making me
laugh and sharing what was a special weekend.

And a BIG thank you to lovely Karin for a comfy bed, glass of
wine and a catch up too x

(oops I seem to have picked up a course brochure and Julie has several
more weekends coming up.......)

globe trotting - ImagineNations

I'm quite partial to an old tin globe or three. They can be found dotted around the Cheesie gaff, on shelves and cupboards. I'm sitting next to my current fave now. It's an an old vintage moon globe.......the sea of serenity, the bay of rainbows,
the ocean of storms (sounds like a poem).
I stumbled upon these amazing creations by artist Wendy Gould.
Wendy takes globes with a history and re-creates them into wonderful personalised works of art. Stunning!

I received these beautifully knitted wrist warmers for my birthday from the most talented knitter (and the only one who knits consistently at our 'craft evenings', whilst some of us just sit, gossip
and eat........ :-))

Thank you Jules; they've kept me warm these last few months.

Tiny city of skyscrapers

I'm in awe of this wonderful creation. A tiny metropolis made entirely out of staples. Artist Peter Root carefully placed 100,000 pieces of the tiny metal staples into tall building-like blocks. Absolutely amazing!

mini trend - circus

Trawling the internet for some typography and images I discovered a mini trend for all things 'Circus'. I love the faded colours and serifed typefaces. Bring on the clowns.......

a few years ago mr cheese bought me a lovely little papier mache bunny in a box called 'small brown' by julie arkell. I love it so much. I would love a little friend to keep her company on that big, lonely old shelf........
